Raising kids is hard.
Letting them go is harder.

You gave them roots. Now it’s time to let them fly. Find hope and encouragement when it’s time to let go.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
— Jeremiah 29:11

You blinked.

And your baby isn’t a baby any more.

Your heart and mind ping-pong between past and present, excitement and fear, joy and pain.

You feel unprepared to let go, but each tick of the clock prepared you for this.

In the midst of the waves, you may need a gentle reminder that you’re more ready than you know. Even when it hurts a little.

Or a lot.

Hang on to God’s promise as you let go of them.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” — Proverbs 22:6

You gave them roots. Now it’s time to watch them fly.

I know how hard it is to let go of your kids.

Shortly after dropping my first son at college, I wrote a blog post about the happiness and heartache of raising and letting go of our kids. Nearly a decade, Roots & Wings is now a short, illustrated book.

Written to encourage moms on the verge of launching kids, it’s also a message of hope for every mom who worries about the future. Sometimes we need a gentle reminder that life never happens as quickly as it does in our mind — and each season prepares us for the next.

In the years since I shared my reflections, I’ve launched three sons, welcomed two daughter-in-laws, and become a grandma. It’s the joy that comes after letting go.

My deepest prayer is that you won’t let your fear of the future overshadow the goodness of God in every moment today. Keep giving them roots, dearest mom.

Because rooted kids are made to fly.

Motherhood is a place where joy & pain collide.

Sometimes hope for the future lives alongside grief for the moments we’ve left behind. Find hope and encouragement when you need it most.

“A must have gift for every parent out there!”

This short story captures all of the feels that come with raising and launching our kiddos straight from the heart of a mom who has been there. I can't recommend this little gem enough. I promise, the moms and dads in your life will thank you and may even shed a few tears as they turn the pages like I did.

“Thank you!”

Heidi’s true portrayal of all the emotions we experience as our children develop these beautiful wings we’ve worked so hard to help them build.

“This book offers peace, hope, and wisdom.”

The world throws so many voices at us about parenting but Heidi does an amazing job of simplifying the role. She shares how each step of parenting prepares for the next. Thankful for a Heidi who has been through these stages of life and can share it with the world.
